ask speaker to keep addressing mic pls
Barry McMullin
41:14
We had issues with the mic and are using a static one. He moved a bit far from it a few moments ago. I'm hoping my frantic 'move closer to the computer' hand gestures have made sure things will be more consistent from now on.
Niall Sargent

much better ta!
Joeri Rogelj

although occasionally speaker remains very quiet
Barry McMullin

OK, will let them know. Hopefully we can improve things.

Question: Do the 8 pillars of the EU's Green New Deal represent a step towards the necessary risk based approach to scenario planning? i.e. you can choose different tools to reach net zero or place different emphases on different tools depending on circumstances?
Barry McMullin
51:14
Thanks Gemma. I'll pass that on to Paul during the discussion portion.
Gemma
01:21:48
Thanks!

Extremely unlikely that any of these (informative and appreciated) ) constructive options will actually be adopted and realised ; we are in the grip of a series of socio-politico economic addictions which will prevent them; We can now at least be aware of what is inexorably happening to us and our offspring ? ; Coronavirus and the surrounding current 'fuss' is small in relation to human destiny in this context : Discuss ?

Hi and thanks for the brilliant presentation. Here at Good Energies Alliance Ireland we carried out a GHG emissions and removals inventory for County Leitrim. We used the AR5 GWP values and ended up with (gross) ~440 ktCO2eq/year, of which ~190 ktCO2eq come from Agriculture (70% of which is CH4). Do you think if we had used the GWP* this values would be substantially different? Much higher?Wouldn't drastically cutting CH4 globally ensure a containment of global temperatures within the paris treshold (for it is a short-lived climate forcer)? Shouldn't major efforts go into this w.r.t. going net zero on CO2?
Joeri Rogelj
02:15:49
Annual CO2-equivalent emissions are still better expressed in GWP-100, the cumulative impact of your emissions is better assessed with GWP*

Thanks Barry and Paul for very interesting presentations, I have to leave the meeting now but will watch the recording back to catch the rest of the discussion. Edwina

Gemma (EPA): Comment: is it not the case that we should stop trying to equivalise CO2 and methane but rather have a policy for getting CO2 on a Paris compatible pathway and another for getting methane on a Paris compatible pathway? They are different gases operating in different ways.
Barry McMullin
02:41:32
Sorry, Gemma, that we didn't have time for that last question. I hope the seminar was enlightening overall.
